A Heart of Mercy, A Stand for Justice
A Devotion on Balancing Love and Justice
Romans 12:9 says, “Love must be free of hypocrisy. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good.” In a world filled with pain and brokenness, how do we live this out?
A Shared Grief
I know the piercing sorrow of losing a child to their forever home. The one who took Charlie Kirk’s life will face consequences—separation from family, from life as he knew it. Prison may await, or worse, his life may be taken, by others or himself. We don’t know what lies ahead, but my heart aches for his family, who are suffering deeply. It also grieves for Charlie Kirk’s loved ones, enveloped in their own pain. Yet, some rejoice, saying, “He deserved it.” That response is despicable, and it wounds the heart of God.
Choosing Love Over Hate
I wasn’t a follower of Charlie Kirk, and I don’t know much about him. But I stand on the side of love, kindness, mercy, and grace. There’s a time to detest what is evil, as Scripture commands, but we must walk a fine line. We can hate the unrighteous act without condemning the person to eternal judgment. That’s between them and their Maker. While they still have breath, there’s hope for their soul. I pray this individual comes to know the Lord, despite those who expect venom and hate from me. I refuse to give in to that.
Balancing Mercy and Justice
Love must be genuine, mercy ever-present, and evil never excused. This balance is hard but necessary. Micah 6:8 reminds us, “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” I grieve with those who grieve, pray for the broken, and strive to stand firm in truth with a love that detests evil but never forgets mercy.
A Prayer for a Soft Heart
Father, I pray for a heart that sees with mercy yet stands for justice. As the world grows colder, keep my heart warm and tender, rooted in Your love. May I walk humbly, reflecting Your grace in every step, trusting You to judge rightly while I extend compassion to all.
