Part II
David would make very ungodly, willful decisions, and act on them, but he would also do the will of God. How is that possible? Every one of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Every one of us, including David. Yes, he was a player in the flesh, but he was a player for the kingdom of God who would not tolerate the enemy’s threats. Well, his brothers heard him and ridiculed him, but he he didn’t let that stop him; he was on a mission! Don’t let your brothers and sisters in the Lord or anyone else hinder you. Besides David’s brothers, someone else overheard what he said, and it was leaked back to King Saul, so he had him summoned. Don’t be surprised at who you stand before if/when you’re boldly moving on behalf of the Lord!
The resistance began. Saul told David he was too young to fight Goliath. Someone will always have an excuse why you can’t do something. However, no matter what David’s brothers said, or what Saul said, David had a testimony. He KNEW his God. He had seen the demonstration of God previously, so he had faith. What do you have? Are you fearful about your future, or in faith, knowing God has you?
Saul saw his determination, and sent him to fight Goliath with his very own armor. Saul wouldn’t fight Goliath, but he was going to insert himself in David’s battle with him. Even though David tried to use what Saul had given him, he couldn’t do it. He had to live and move and have his being in who God created him to be. He had to fight from his experience, from what he knew. David was simply unable to fight using someone else’s armor. David was unable to fight from someone else’s ability and experience. We are the same. People love for you to do things their way when they know you’re determined to move forward. If you have strength and faith to fight your Goliaths, use what God gave you! Fight out of the experiences you’ve had with God! You’ll have more solid footing. You’ll fight on solid ground.
…for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ (Acts 17:28, NET)
David faced Goliath, and it was now his turn to hurl words full of faith at Goliath, and he said, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head.”
He wasn’t about reforming or tolerating Goliath. He was about removing the enemy of God. Love and righteousness hates evil. Note: the Christian doesn’t hate people, but most hate evil actions. Isn’t it amazing what David’s five smooth stones, love for and faith in God can do!! Goliath was defeated.
We don’t need five stones, though. Christ Jesus is our stone that the builders rejected. He’s our rock, our fortress. We fight differently, yet the same. We don’t go around cutting people’s heads off, but we do fight the same in that we do it in the name of the Lord! The FERVENT, effectual, prayer of the righteous avails much! Our battle today is a spiritual battle (Ephesians). Hopefully we don’t just speak about or at our Goliaths, our mountains, but hopefully we speak to them with faith-filled words in the Name of the Lord, removing every one of them! May we be people of faith and not fear, knowing EVERY knee is going to bow at the name of Jesus, and every tongue is going to confess He is Lord!
